What did you mean with the word ‘mentor’?

I need to find something that will both organise all the things I need to keep track of, whilst at the same time be technologically geeky enough for me not to get bored with it and toss it away like the hundreds of notebooks/diaries I inevitably buy each year. I’ve decided I want to buy a PDA. I’ve been thinking this for a while now but it’s only in the last month or so I’ve really started thinking about it seriously. The problem is, I’m so indecisive! It’s horrible. You’d think working in a mobile technology orientated environment would make these sorts of choices easy but in reality knowing the pro’s and con’s of most devices makes the entire process harder!
Warning: The next bit is me raving about various phones and PDA’s. You may find it incredibly boring.
For a standalone PDA, I know what tech specs I’d consider. I’d want something running Microsoft Windows Mobile, expandable memory, preferably with Bluetooth (but not necessarily), which is more than easy enough to find in this day and age, but I’m stuck when it comes to aesthetics! I’m such a girl sometimes. Nothing in the current Dell Axim/HP iPaq lines really grabs my attention! I must be one of the few people who requires a technological device to be ‘pretty’ before I’ll even consider buying it. I do like a few of the older models, such as the HP iPaq rz1710 or the Dell Axim x30 but with my horrid luck, I want something that comes with a warranty, which rules out eBay.
I was originally thinking of getting a phone al la PDA when I was in the market for a new phone, but there was nothing particularly appealing on the market at the time I really needed to get a new phone. Now these devices have become incredibly popular and are being released like crazy. I’ve been considering the merits of selling my (brand new) phone and purchasing Sony Ericsson’s m600i.The white version is absolutely gorgeous! Anyone after a PDA and phone solution in one should really check it out! The only ‘vice’ per say is that it doesn’t have a camera, but for the few times I actually use the camera in my phone, it wouldn’t be missed. It has a very easy to use QWERTY keypad (as well as a stylus), which makes text messaging and data entry easy and I really like SE’s implementation of the Symbian operating system! Actually I’m a Symbian fan (applications!!!) full stop but I won’t go into that or this post will turn into an essay…
Anyway, in summary. I want a shiny new, pretty, gadget I can amuse myself with for the next few months and now need to justify to myself the purchase of such device. Well. Actually; correction, in my mind it’s totally justified. I like shiny things and maybe a shiny thing would help me remember everything I need to do. The problem is… I have no money. I guess it’s time to start saving. It’ll also give me time to see if any standalone PDA’s I deem as aesthically pleasing are released onto the market. :)

Nadine, another delay doesn’t mean anything, just buy an ugly one and then paint it.

Haha, well I’d just buy one. I’m the same though, I know I’d end up just tossing it away.

Well for asthetics you’ve got a few choices that are all sexier than that.
There’s the O2’s. I know, they’re hideously expensive but damn they’re nice. Then there’s the iMates. They’re black and run Windows Mobile 5. If you want me to buy one for you let me know, they come up cheap at surplus auctions regularly enough.
And let me tell you RIGHT now, you DO want Bluetooth and you most probably want WiFi too. You’re shooting yourself in the foot if you don’t, cos if you want to communicate easilyl with your PC or another phone, thats what your bluetooth is for, and then if you’re at uni or you get wireless at home or a friends place, then you have the WiFi so you can whore their broadband.
The other thing you need to take into thought is do you want a phone with PDA functionality, or a PDA with phone functionality? Or do you want a seperate PDA and phone? Personalyl I think that a phone with PDA functionality is the way to go, hence my choice of the iMate or the 02.

Hmm, I say go for the whole phone and PDA combo pack. It would be much easier to manage instead of having two different things in your purse. Good luck saving the money for it =)

I think even with a PDA i’d get bored with it and not use it. I’m like that too i start the year with a diary and plan on useing it and then once i remember all my un rooms and times i just forget about it lol Good luk with finding your prefect PDA!

Hahaha goodluck with finding a nice PDA with all the extras you like. You know… you could always buy a nice phone with a good agenda function on it. That way you won’t toss it aside, since everyone needs a phone and you have something to organise your plans! Guess that’s the cheap & cheerful solution. Hmm, I guess I think it still looks intelligent enough flipping through my organiser and looking girly with my pink pen :P But if you’re really a big fan of shiny gadgets - er, I hope saving the money gives you enough time to find a nice one. And I always say: the bigger the better ;) (ugh and the more expensive)

Buying the newest in technology is so hard. You have to do all that research and make sure it’s the one you really adore…. Well, good luck with deciding on which one you will buy.

YES. I totally know what you mean about buying gazillion notebooks. Been there, done that. LOL. In fact, I still have loads of them. -_- Some, I just buy cause they look nice and not cause I need it. And when I get back, it’s like WTF. What am I going to write in this book when I already have so many. GRR.

I feel rather stupid now, as I have absolutely no idea what a PDA is :] Haha, my phone is just a shitty Motorola Razr :| I really need a new one. Anyway, good luck with your decision [whatever it is :P] and I love your layout!

I love PDAs, they are so nice. but I don’t have one. Even though I’m only a senior in high school I could really use one. If its not on something i carry with me all the time 4.999998 times out of 3, I forget about it.

Wow, your incredibly technical. I’d never be able to compare and figure out things like that.I’d probably jsut get a phone that looks good and has some obvious features…I’ve never heard of a PDA
