I can’t be as sorry as you think I should.

Would I be totally crazy throwing this away?

On a whim, a month or so I applied to Swinburne Uni for mid year entry into a Bachelor of Design, in Multimedia studies. I found out last night I was accepted. It’s something I’ve always been interested in doing, and I’m not happy in the course I’m doing right now. I don’t think I can hack another 4 years of pretending to be interested in biomolecular chemistry and the history & philosophy of science. So basically… the question is… do I pay to study something I’m pretty sure I’ll enjoy, or do I continue with a scholarship in a course I’m no longer really interested in?

Meh. So many decisions! I wish someone else could make my life changing choices for me, things would be so much easier!

I honestly think that you should study and do what you enjoy! There is nothing worse than hating what you do all your life or wasting time in school when you can be learning things you love! I say go for it hun! Congratulations on your acceptance, by the way!

Do the free course for sure, then pay to do the one you want after - two for the price of one, and you’re a fair way ahead in life by the end.

Do the one you love. There’s little point in having a degree in something you’re not going to use. Although that said, showing that you have the patience and stamina doing a four year course that has really big words in the title is certainly a positive thing.

But then, do you want to waste 4 years of your life? If you finish this course, then do the next one, you’ll be in your late 20s by the time you’ve finished and you’ll only just be able to start getting a real job (as it were, some of the best jobs I had were while I was at uni!)

So instead of speaking to career advisor (which, admittedly, don’t exist outside of high school), you enlist the help of readers of your blog :)
Personally, I tip going for the one you enjoy. If you enjoy something, you’re more likely to do it, because you’re motivated by the enthusiasm of it all - the passion for it. Yes, you’re throwing away a scholarship; but honestly, you’re not gonna do something sciencey, are you? I think you’d be bored sitting in a room reading books all day. You’re too fun for that! :)
That’s my $0.04

i’m not one for career advisors kris kris :) thanks guys. you’ve all sort of said what i’ve been thinking. except t, however, his opinion doesn’t count :P j/k, that’s probably what i would have done if the course i’m doing now wasn’t five years long!

I’d tell you to stay at melbourne uni cos it’s sweet. But it’s not really that sweet……
I’m already halfway through my course, and I don’t feel like I’ve learned anything.
So in other words, my opinion doesn’t count and Mildura is really boring. Thanks for listening…..
